I was poolside last weekend watching women constantly fidget with their hair. They were smoothing flyaways, retying ponytails, and basically fighting a losing battle against humidity.
Meanwhile, my friend sat there looking effortlessly chic with her hair in a simple low bun and a silk scarf. Guess who looked more relaxed and put-together?
Summer hair doesn’t have to be a struggle if you work with the season instead of against it.
Heatless Beach Waves that Actually Work
Forget the curling iron torture in 90-degree weather. The night before you want waves, put slightly damp hair in a very loose, high bun (think messy ballerina, not tight gymnast). Sleep on it and wake up with those perfectly imperfect waves that look like you spent hours at the beach. The key is the “slightly damp” part. If your hair is too wet and you’ll wake up with a weird dent; too dry and nothing happens.

Low Buns Mean Business
This isn’t your basic ponytail bun. I’m talking about a sleek, low bun that sits right at the nape of your neck. It keeps everything off your face and neck while looking intentional and polished.
I love adding one bold accessory like a statement hair clip, a silk scarf tied as a headband, or even interesting bobby pins arranged deliberately. Suddenly, your “I can’t deal with my hair today” becomes “I’m so effortlessly chic.” Works for everything from Zoom calls to dinner out.
Silk Scarves for the Win!
This is probably my favorite summer discovery. A silk scarf can transform any basic hairstyle into something that looks expensive and intentional. Wrap it around a low ponytail, use it as a headband with hair down, or tie it into your bun for instant sophistication. The silk doesn’t absorb moisture like cotton, so it actually helps protect your hair from humidity. Plus, it photographs beautifully! So important for all those summer events and vacation photos.

What NOT to Wear
Skip the high-maintenance styles that require constant touch-ups. Anything with excessive teasing, heavy products, or complicated curls is just going to frustrate you. Also, those super-tight pulled-back styles might seem practical, but they often end up looking severe and give you a headache by noon.
The goal is to look like you put thought into your appearance without actually spending your entire morning on hair prep. These styles work whether you’re heading to outdoor client meetings, vacation adventures, or just trying to survive another scorching commute!
